“To play without passion is inexcusable!”

About Brenda Hunting

Brenda Hunting is a piano teacher and music educator with forty years of teaching experience. Her students range from beginners to advanced, as young as pre-schoolers through to retirees.

Brenda undertook her studies in piano performance and music education at the Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne.

In addition to her teaching, she has been involved in a number of committees and councils and held executive positions. Since moving to Brisbane she has been active in the Music Teachers' Association of Queensland Inc (MTAQ), serving on Council for six years, including three years as president and a year as vice-president. She has also served as web coordinator, established the Student Performers Society, and currently looks after broadcasting their professional development workshops online. She has also presented professional development workshops for the MTAQ. She has been a church musician (piano, organ, singing, choral singing and conducting) since her mid-teens, and has been involved in music and worship in churches of a variety of denominations wherever she has lived in Australia and in Asia.

Learning is one of Brenda's lifelong passions. Although already well qualified, she recognises the importance of continuing professional development, in which she participates at every opportunity. Her studies in the Taubman Approach under Dr Therese Milanovic resolved decades of pain from playing related injuries and led to her being accepted into the Golandsky Institute's Teacher Certification Program to teach the Taubman Approach to piano technique. Brenda is continuing her Taubman studies with Therese in Brisbane and regularly travels to the US to attend the Golandsky Institute Summer Symposium and to undertake intensive studies with her mentors, John Bloomfield and Edna Golandsky.

Since her recovery from playing related injuries, Brenda has returned to performing. For the last three years, she and her duo partner Anna Lu have been performing works for piano four hands and occasional two piano works around Brisbane. They held their first recital under their new name - Duplexity Piano Duo - in March 2015.
